Accordingly, from the emergence of Christianity, religious education has been regarded as an intrinsic responsibility of the Church and has taken diverse forms and encompassed a variety of contents throughout history.<br>This study adopts a historical-critical approach to examine the developments of religious education in the Catholic Church. Its primary aim is to elucidate the dual nature of religious education: on the one hand, religious education serves as a means of transmitting religious teachings and preserving the Church’s religious identity; on the other hand, it functions as a means of redefining its communicative and interactive identity in relation to society.<br>Through a brief examination of the history of religious education and with particular focus on the important declaration <em>Gravissimum Educationis</em> (<em>Declaration on Christian Education</em>), this study demonstrates how the Church has sought throughout history to maintain a balance between these two objectives. The study also examines the challenges that the Catholic Church faces in the contemporary world in the field of religious education. تربیت دینی همواره یکی از ارکان اصلی کلیسای کاتولیک بوده و ریشه در فرمان تاریخی عیسی مسیح دارد: «برو و تعلیم بده» (متی 28: 18-20). بر همین اساس است که از بدو پیدایش مسیحیت، آموزش دینی وظیفه‌ی ذاتی کلیسا تلقی شده و در طول تاریخ، شکل‌ها و محتوای متنوعی به خود گرفته است.<br><br>این پژوهش با رویکردی تاریخی-انتقادی به بررسی تحولات تربیت دینی در کلیسای کاتولیک می‌پردازد. هدف اصلی این پژوهش، آشکارسازی ماهیت دوگانه تربیت دینی است: از یک سو، تربیت دینی ابزاری‌ست برای انتقال آموزه‌های دینی و حفظ هویت مذهبی کلیسا؛ و از سوی دیگر، عاملی‌ست برای بازتعریف هویت ارتباطی و تعاملی خود با جامعه.<br><br>با مطالعه‌ی اجمالی تاریخ تربیت دینی و نیز با تمرکز بر بیانیه مهم «آموزش حیاتی»، این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که چگونه کلیسا در طول تاریخ تلاش کرده است تا تعادل میان این دو هدف را برقرار کند. از سوی دیگر، این پژوهش به بررسی چالش‌هایی می‌پردازد که کلیسای کاتولیک در دنیای امروز در زمینه تربیت دینی با آن مواجه است. https://adyan.urd.ac.ir/article_236026_9aec5a6329696aac205bda4e42790d4a.pdf
