Abstract

Belief in the spirits of the dead in African traditions and religions has led to certain belief systems, which may be considered idolatry or, in some aspects, a kind of animism. If it is true that this is the premise of this research, it should be seen what is the place and role of this belief in individual and social life. The research has shown that any belief and belief in the role and position of spirits leads to the type of understanding and understanding of God, therefore, in the theoretical foundations section, the examination and typology of the analysis of spirits and its relationship with belief in God were discussed. Another premise of this research is that there is a relationship between the type of belief in spirits (the dead) and the type of theology. Regarding which of these two variables is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable, past researches have obtained different bases and results. This research, with the method of descriptive library studies, has led to the conclusion that the role of the spirits of the dead in the Shonai indigenous religion or religion in Zimbabwe does not mean the idea that the spirits of the dead are the same gods. The role of mediation and being a means to meet individual and social needs for them is more prominent among the Shona people.
