English

Qur'an, as a text of spoken communication, is not far from the historical, cultural and social relations of the time of descent. This book reflects the culture and religious beliefs of late antiquity. The Jews of the age of descent were a wide and diverse society that had gone through different periods and produced rich literature. Part of what the Qur'an has reflected goes back to the religious tradition of the Jews, but the question is who are these Jews and what is their approach. This article has tried to answer this question. The method used in this article is analytical, historical and interpretive. Based on the comparison of the creation narrative with the Talmudic tradition and the intratextual evidence as well as other implicit evidence, this article shows that the Holy Qur'an confronts Rabbinic Judaism and not the Hebrew Bible. This article emphasizes that in order to understand and interpret the verses of the Quran, at least where it represents Jewish traditions, it is appropriate to refer to the Talmud and other Jewish midarashi sources.
